Pat Hensley, from successfulteaching.blogspot.com, joined us via Zoom to teach a beautiful inlay knitting technique that mimics embroidery. This method, from South Western Estonia, is called roosimine (also sometimes called roositud). It creates embroidery-like patterns by making intentional floats in contrasting colors and cleverly weaving the yarn while knitting.
Members made a cuff using this easy technique!
With still a little snow on the ground, we all were happy to join together for a little knitting fun this month. A few familiar faces rejoined us after a long winter and we were so happy to see their smiling faces.
Our President and TKGA Certified Master Hand Knitter, and as of this month TKGA Certified Knitting Instructor, Alicia H. (congratulations Alicia), presented a program on Brioche knitting. Members gathered up front to get a birds-eye view to learn this technique.
With a little break in the weather, many of us were more than ready to join together for this month's guild meeting. Alicia H., our President and TKGA Certified Master Hand Knitter (pictured on the right), presented a program on "Making Gauge Your Superpower." With our works-in-progress and rulers in hand, we put our math skills to the test. We learned what types of adjustments to make in order to ensure our finished works fit in the end.
Danielle C. (pictured on left) won the February raffle basket. Congratulations Danielle.
With the holidays over and done, it was time to level up our knitting. Caroline presented a program on "10 Things the Pattern May Not Tell You." We learned what to look out for and how to give our projects that perfect finish. We had a bonus program from Deborah Gardner on "Quick Fix for a Snag." Every member received a foam square and felting needle and learned how to take those snags and felt them into place so they were hidden and won't snag on the back side of our fabric.
We also celebrated those winners of the Knitted Stranded Mitten contest who are members of our guild. Congrats to Sarah M. for 1st Place Fingerless Mitts and Best of Show & for 2nd Place Full Mittens, Joy S. for 1st Place Full Mittens, and Debra Maloney for 2nd Place Fingerless Mitts (pictured below from left to right).
What a fantastic group of people. So many donations were received and distributed to our two main charities: Clear Path for Veterans and Vera House. Thank you to everyone who contributed. I'm sure the recipients will love their new hats, mittens, scarfs, and other handknit items.
Our program for this month was "What Are You Stalking on Ravelry?" which lead to some fun conversations amongst our members.
We are truly thankful for all of our new and returning members. This month's program was "Bring Your Favorit Gadget" and wow did we have a lot of really interesting items to discuss. You can find a list of these on our new Gadgets and Gizmos page under Resources.
Great friends, great conversation, and great beer. Who could ask for anything more?
Participants at our Sip Sip Knit event learned to make a miniature pumpkin knit in the round. Cinnamon sticks were used for the stems. It was a fun night. Thank you, Meier's Creek Brewing, for co-hosting our event.
Another great meeting in the books. This month's program was "Ask a Master Hand Knitter." Alicia and Caroline sat down with members to answer questions and help them break through any issues blocking their road to completion.
Our first meeting of the season and what a success. Fourteen new members joined us on our first day. Thirty-eight were in attendance. It was so nice meeting new people and seeing the smiling faces of our returning members. It's going to be a great year.
Librarian Sally L. and Treasurer Janet B. staff our first booth at the CNY Fiber Festival in Bouckville, NY! We gave away close to 200 bookmark rulers, and over 60 people asked to be notified via email before our September meeting.
Christina T. and Ceaira D. receive a hand knit pillow and lap blanket, in gratitude for their many years of combined service as President and Treasurer of Twisted Stitches Knitting Guild. Thank you Christina and Ceaira!!! And thank you Alicia H. for designing and creating the gifts on behalf of a grateful Guild!
